#RE: Guestbook 2012 —
Hong Kong Girl2012-01-07 22:37
Hoi, ik kom uit hongkong. Ik ben in hongkong geboren en getogen. Barbara was mijn idool in mijn jeugd!
Hi, Rob..wondering if barbara ever mentioned to you about her closeness with Michael Miu??? I still couldn't believed nothing happend between them two??? Even she look closer to Michael Miu than Kent Tong(which so called her boyfriend at that time), people can see that!
I never had contact again with Barbara after she left for HK, therefore I wouldn't know. What I have read is that they were good colleagues. Knowing Barbara she would never betray her boyfriend, therefore I don't think they had a relation.
Oh I see, but even in the last interview I read in your site here, she was mentioning that nothing special between her and Kent, just good friend and she got annoyed when people always asked about him in every interview! So if anything happend between her and michael no one will know except the two of them, anyway I wish they did hook up because they look like a real couple who adore each other
I agree with you that the relationship between Kent and Barbara is very confusion, especially how they present themselves to the media. Sometimes they are a couple (like in the latest video I published) and then in some interviews Barbara says they are just good friends. I suppose only Kent knows the real answer.

Hello Rob. Nearly a month ago, I posted the thread regarding Barbara on Thai popular webboard. After I have been reading your website for months, I should do something for her, so her Thai fans won't forget but know her more. I saw nobody wrote about her for 2 years already. I like her from the series LOCH83, then the thread focused on her role as Huang Rong.I refered this website on that thread(someone did before)and encouraged them to read here. Today I see more of her fans from Thailand view your page. This really makes me smile, guess I did something for her already. Still hope to see the next move of this love story, like a movie, possible? Here is the thread (in Thai) http://www.pantip.com/cafe/chalermthai/topic/A11572060/A11572060.html

Hello Red Robin,
The last few weeks more than 2000 visitors of this site came from Thailand, the weeks before that only a few. That is thanks to your thread. It shows that Barbara isn't forgotten yet in Thailand. Thanks.
Rob. Barbara's Thai fans (from worldwide) remember her so well as Huang Rong. LOCH83 is truely a legend and also Ong Mei Ling (how we call her name in Thailand)as Huang Rong. New generations who have seen LOCH83 will love her too.I love those pictures of Felix Wong and Barbara in Thailand. She looked happy and was very beautiful.
A few hours ago I was playing random songs on my piano then I decided to play some old tunes from old TVB series like the theme song from "The New Adventure of Chor Lau Heung". For some reason I couldn't remember the tune... so I hit youtube. Then somehow I ended looking at some tribute videos for Barbara Yung, and now I am on this web site. Another one of my Internet adventure.
Barbaba was a great actress with a magnificent presence on screen. Thanks for keeping this web site.

Just want to say thank you to you Rob for this website. i have been a fan of Barbara since I was a kid. for me your sharing first time shows her as an ordinary young girl facing sweet and bitter sides of real life. I do appreciate you and your friends memorize her as a friend long ago, sweet and young ever in memories.it is somehow comforting to see that she left darling memories in the people who she grew up with.
i wonder if you would like to have someone to help with translating more articles into Chinese so that more Chiense fans can visit the site.i would love to help if needed.
It would be very nice if you could do some translations, many Chinese fans would appreciate that. Just send met the translation bij mail and I will publish it on this website.
Dear Rob, thank you so much for this website. I was a fan of Barbara in my early teens, i collected a lot of her pictures with my very limited pocket money. recently, i was hoping to find some old video clips of her, i ended up in the site. all the photos of you and Barbara are so sweet looking. I'm so happy to learn that she had some happy times in her short life. Like Barbara, i also live my life between two cultures, "the Chinese Way" and " the American Way" somehow were both intertwined. when i was younger, it could be struggling at times. I knew in my heart, Barbara would had been much better off, if she had stayed in the western culture. i had a lot to relate to with your stories, thank you, thank you. after reading your stories, i couldn't help myself to look for some more information on Barbara, one thing i've found that had been bothering me for weeks, now, is the posting on the internet of some 3 HK men raped her that caused her death.. just couldn't get over it..
Rob, thanks for the valuable info of Barbara's early life. I'm not a big fan of her acting (thought she was a fairly pedestrian actress), but I find her life story captivating. I'm sure many people would've wished that she stayed with you in England and lived happily ever after and never had an acting career in HK. I believe her time at TVB and the pressure of that business was a big contributing part of why she did what she did. If you took that away, her personal problems would become so much more mundane and manageable. It was the brutal environment she was in, the cutthroat business at the time (when there was an all-out ratings war between rival stations TVB and RTV at the time) that never really allowed her to heal whatever that was ailing her. We have seen so many fallen celebrities: Whitney Houstin, Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe, Lin Dai (50s HK star), Leslie Cheung, etc. who likewise succumbed to their environments.
What a heart-broken love story! I still remember watching Barbara's TV series when I's a kid.
Being in an inter-racial marriage myself, I'm so thankful that my parents are always supportive and there's a much wider acceptance of interracial relationships nowadays. My heart trembled when I read how you two struggled in such a harsh and dilemmatical situation back in the 70's.
Best wishes to you and your family.
Cheers!

Hi, I too was Barbara biggest fan, but then again I guess we all are, or else we wouldn't be here. This is the day when Barbara commited suicide and left behind those who truly love her. I just hope that she found happiness wherever she is now, and I hope she knows that we'll alway miss her, a lot. Thank you Rob for the website,"Words cannot describe", How thoughful of you, now we all as a fan can express our feeling and a step closer to her by knowing her other half.
#Will always remember Barbara —
Jim2012-05-14 16:21
Barbara was the only actress that I am a fan of. Back then, I had hope to go to Hong Kong to see her in person. When I heard on the new she had died, I was shock and very sad. It has been 27 years now but I, along with all her other fans, will always remember her. She was pretty but I was more captivated by her character(fun loving, playful, mischievous)which match the role of Wong Yung perfectly.
I didn't see the Chinese characters, but for every seen 83 version of shoots carves Chinese speaking, will be deeply to like you, me too, I had been deeply infatuated with o wong, in fact I'm a late, say that you are my mother that generation, but I was so eager to find someone like you girl, you smile, remembered.
Hallo Niha, Hoe heb je deze website gevonden? Er zijn zoveel bezoekers vandaag, (normaal 200 per dag), het lijkt wel of iemand iets gepubliceerd heeft, klopt dat?
Thank you for sharing so many pics,it let me can see a more younger star, she looks so young and so beautiful. But time has passed for almost 27 years.Have you ever regret for let her go?Did you ever try to contact her in those days?
I am so excited when I see Barbara again, thanks for your love to her although it was not long enough to keep her settle down in England instead of going back to HK, thanks again.
I happened to heard of Barbara's Dutch boyfriend and found your website. Did you ever learn some Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarins) for Barbara? You were together for over 2 years.
Cannot tell how emotional after finding out this website...aftering finding out that after all these years, my heart still ripples when I see her face.
Truly love you Barbara!

Thanks so much for opening this website. It is wonderful to see what a natural beauty she really was, even before she became famous in Hong Kong. Breath taking photos!! stunning!! I was a big fan of her when I was a teenager. after so many years I still remember her beautiful and cheeky smiles. She will always be in my heart. Best wishes to you and your family Rob.
I do not know much about Barbara until reading your memoir today. I'm very touched and want to thank you for sharing your memories. Your story is also a good documentary of the culture and history background of that era. You should put together a book to preserve the stories. Best wishes to you and your family.
Aha....Unforgettable sweet memory amazaing love store that I always wonder in my young age. The love containers purenesss, truthness, warmness, and Romance. Cheers for your sharing~~~~~~
I miss Babara so much. I ever went to visit her cemetery in Cambridge on 02JUN 2004. I tried to find the "fish&chips" where Babara lived pre-moving to HongKong, but failed.
Rob, thanks your sharing the love story to us. God bless you too.
My eyes were filled with tears reading the stories of you two. 20 years ago, i found a book of Barbara's drawings in a library in Vancouver,I think you should see that book.
Hi Rob, that book was full of Barbara's pencil sketches. It mentioned that Barbara's uncle is a very artistic person who had made a positive influence on Barbara. The drawings were beautiful. I had moved to Hong Kong but I promise I will try to find that book for you.

Thank you Keko, I don't think the book is still available. Maybe someone can make a digital copy of it for me so that I can publish it on this website.
I ask my mother to look at these pictures together with me. She is even more interested in them. you might not know or understand how great the impact she has on generation and generation in China. Across China, nearly everyone born before 1990 know her. thanks for what you have shared with her fans.
hello,Rob,thank you for sharing so much about Babara, i haven't read all of these articles. a suddenly idea came up in my mind. Have you ever considered to publish these memories to a book, i think it must be popular among all of friends who love Babara.
Hello Ben, No I don't want to write a book as I don't want any commercial gain from my relation with Barbara. I don't mind if someone else writes a book, I am willing to help.

Hi Rob, she is my favorite actress when I was little. I didn't understand chinese language but I watched her on tvb series drama. Finally, they have english subtitles. Do you watch her on tvb series drama with english subitles? I was sad& miss her.

I only have the Legend and the fearless duo with subtitles, till now I haven't found the other series with subtitles. It would be nice if they would be subtitled as well. I would love to watch them.

Linh2012-12-08 17:08
The New Adventure of Chor Lau Heung with english subtitle they have now. She's very beautiful in it. You should watch it. You can order online or buy it from chinese video store.
Thanks Rob. I think everything happens for a reason. If she had married you and had a normal life, we would never know her. She had experienced wonderful love with you before she left this world. She is forever young in a lot of people's hearts. Ending is a beginning of a new one. Now she is in a better place. Wish you the best. TD
Reading the stories between you and Barbara, I could not help crying. Barbara is a talented actress and she played a very success role in "Legend of the Condor Heroes". Thanks for your sharing.
Sweet memory all the time, you know Hong Kong is now broadcasting Barbara first TV Programme and I'm enjoying it again even I have watch it more than 20 times. Hope she know that in heaven.
I'm here because I was one of Barbara's fan & your stories reminded my early years in England. I met a girl on the plane from HK, to whom I latter fell in love. We were not at the same city but we had similar life as Barbara's, going to college like CCTA and every Friday, we had to rush for work through the weekend at relatives' chippy by bus while our pals were driving away from parties. We only met 3 times and we both had important exams to take on the summer so I never told her what was on my mind. Those meetings were some of my best moments of my life. After the summer, she returned HK and we lost contact. I somehow managed to finish my studies and returned HK when Barbara's career was at its peak. Because of similar background, I thought of the girl every time when I saw Barbara in the screen. Like many many others, I was stunned when the news of her death broke out from radio that morning. A girl like her should deserve better and be protected by those who Barbara trusted.
Dear Rob, Thank you for taking the time to share with us the wonderful memories, which have been held close to your heart. You have given wings to a beautiful angel such as Barbara with these memories. Most people would only know her as the famous Barbara Yung, actress, legendary Wong Yung and with your memories, you have shown a side of her that was human with all our insecurities, strengths and complexities. I doubt that few would know her as well as you do after she's become famous. It is truly touching to know that she at least have felt and experienced a love that few in this world could ever say have felt. Thank you Rob for having given that to her and I'm sure enriched her life, so she became who she was. It is sad though that her insecurities got the better of her. I wish you the best, and may her memories live on forever more. Dank u well.
Rob, I hope someone can make a movie out of your story. Your story is so inspiring. It gave me more thoughts on life, love, family, culture differences, and so much more.
Rob, Thank you very much, made this website, let we can know more about Babara. We all love Babara, now and forget all her ... thank you to you and we will not forget her, and she would know it was very pleased. Bless you all, and will always be happy.
#About Yung's Mother —
Nicholas Wang2012-11-26 08:07
Where does her mother live? I think her mother is old.Did you see her mother on 201X?
When I had read your stories attentively, I'm so sad. The love story between you and barbara had touched me so deeply, I even burst into tears. I think she is no longer a super star, but a ordinary people as us. I hope in the near future, I would have an opportunity to visit you, where do you live now? London or Netherland?
I would like her shows on dvds for the 13th Sister and The Foundations (with or without English subtitles. Anyone know where I can get these as I live in Canada and some Asian stores may not ship to Canada. Perhaps someone knows some place in US, or anywhere else including Asia, where these can be ordered online? I would really like to know.
Try go to TAI SENG ENTERTAINMENT (address: 170 South Spruce Ave., Suite 200 South San Francisco, CA 94080 or call 800-888-3836. Check www.tvb.com/tvbi or check ebay or amozon on website. Chinese rent video store have old series in Monterey Park, CA that I always go. I think you should try ask the owner because he always order and he sells it on Ebay. Don't buy VCD because it is missing parts. DVD is better than VCD.
Rob, do you want "United We Stand" videotape without english subtile?Do you have VCR? I will give you. She played twin sisters. One barbara is rude & mean tomboy and other barbara is sweet& nice woman.
I have to be patient too. I am chinese but I don't undertand chineses Ha ha ha ha ha when I was little girl watching 80's hong kong drama, my mom never translate for me. Ha ha ha
Rob, would you please tell me where did you get fearless duo with english subtitle? Thank you
Why don't you beg barbara's mom or uncle give you her drama dvds? You know know where they are, right? Ha ha ha ha I am kidding. I have no idea. Maybe try go to TVB company in Hong Kong or ask her fans. Good luck Hope you'll find it.
Dear Rob: I was so delightful to see all your story and pictures with Barbara. She was so beautiful with long hair during the picture taken by 1977 and 1978,and she looks very different with the pics when she was in HongKong with heavy make up. From the pictures and the story, I learnt more about UK cambridge and learn more about how a person is as barbara. I like her smile, I am glad that after so many years, barbara still have a place in your heart and you did this website in the memory of her. I can't help imaging that if barbara didnt suicide in 1985 and what her life would be in 2012 right now. I think me and Barbara share the same dream, so I understand her from your words. Anyway, Rob, you did a good job, thanks for sharing!
