Yung Mei Ling's Way of Life
Do not hold grudges, live happily! Don't rely on others, work efficiently. Don't force things, success will come naturally.
TVB is going to feature a new generation of young artists. The "Five Tiger Generals" among the male artists have been successfully developed, but the number of male artists who can become prominent is still limited. It will still take a significant amount of time for them to become truly influential.
During this transitional period, TVB is naturally worried. Fortunately, the company noticed Yung Mei Ling's potential while filming "The Legend of the Condor Heroes". Despite being a minor character, Yung Mei Ling performed quite well. Given the lack of established stars and the company's policy of promoting new talent, Yung Mei Ling quickly became a popular artist, with her fan base growing daily.
This young lady has an impressive appeal. TVB keeps giving her roles, one after another, without allowing her any rest. Although this tires her out, it also brings her closer to success.
Yung Mei Ling, with her large eyes, has naturally gained a lot of fans, but her subsequent success is not something that can be sustained by looks alone. More Successful than "Big Sister"
Yung Mei Ling is very straightforward and does what she promises. She doesn't fear hardships, which is why she became popular in such a short time. It's said that Yung Mei Ling is very independent, which she admits: "Since I was young, I didn't like others controlling me. I always believed my opinions were justified. So, when I entered the entertainment industry, I adhered to this principle."
Yung Mei Ling takes on roles without complaint, even when she is exhausted and thin as a rail. "Success comes with a price, and I'm not afraid of hard work as long as it is worthwhile."
"Don't you mind if it's not worthwhile?" "No! I'm not that calculative. But the experiences of the past couple of years have taught me that you might not always achieve what you desire. Sometimes, success comes when you don't expect it. Not forcing things is the most important."
Her guiding principle is to "do things naturally and live happily." She doesn't like to rely on others for anything. She handles contracts and performance schedules herself, impressing young artists with her dedication and work ethic.
"Although I might appear gentle and easy going on the outside, I'm actually very competitive. Even my boyfriend doesn't get to make decisions for me."
Because of her strong personality, she doesn't want a manager's help, believing her boyfriend would just complicate things. When it comes to business matters, she doesn't compromise.
"Why involve my boyfriend or others unnecessarily? For things like contract negotiations, why add a middleman? I prefer to handle it myself. Even if I fail, it doesn't matter."
I asked Yung Mei Ling if she ever felt wronged while working at TVB. She shook her head and said, "I don't keep bad things in my heart. Even if something upsets me, I let it go quickly. Holding grudges only makes you unhappy."
She might be emotional in her personal life, but she doesn't deal with career difficulties by crying. "For example, when the "exposing" photo was taken, I wasn't upset at others but at myself for being careless. If I had been more careful with my clothes, the issue wouldn't have arisen." Now she refused to take photos for that magazines again.
She never shows a bad attitude, even for photo shoots. Although some people might think she's overexposed, they don't find her annoying. Reaching this level as an artist is admirable. Her attitude makes people have a positive impression of her.
TVB has listed Yung Mei Ling as a top actress, with her English name "Barbara." "I never thought I would become successful," she says.
The Good Girl in Her Mother's Eyes
"TVB is casting you as the leading lady. Do you have any concerns?" "I'll let the company decide. I trust they won't harm me; it's in their interest to do well by me."
After filming a series of dramas, Yung Mei Ling was looking forward to a break. Before heading to Kuala Lumpur for a stage performance, Barbara's mother came from the United States to visit her. Barbara was thrilled and spent every day with her mother, shopping and enjoying time together. She even will take a long leave from TVB to accompany her mother to the UK.
Two years ago, she came to Hong Kong from the UK with the sole intention of entering the Miss Hong Kong pageant. Unexpectedly, she became an artist and achieved considerable success in her career.
Barbara plans to spend two weeks in the UK with her mother and take the opportunity to relax herself.
One is a grown-up woman, someone with her own mind and hands.
"My boyfriend is not selfish; he is good to others."
She loves him for his good heart, and he is kind to others as well. Understanding each other is a kind of shared connection.
"Regardless of how many people there are, I can be your true self around him."
"Isn't it rare to meet someone who gets selected?" she says. This person has a big heart, is considerate, and can be very gentle at times. She understands that these qualities are not easy to come by. Being able to share a simple and pleasant life together is something she cherishes.
"Of course, I like him! He’s not calculative. In fact, when he’s in Hong Kong, he will do anything within his power to help if needed."
This person is very emotional and possesses a unique personality. Undoubtedly, she is candid, but she doesn't fully understand herself. For example, for a bit of extra money, Kent Tong once filmed some bed scenes, which involved lying naked. Barbara, naturally, was not happy about it. However, her frustration was only partly directed at her boyfriend. Watching the actress perform with him made her realize that she had never seen such a scene before, and she found it hard to believe.
I said, "You are an actress too, why does this bother you so much?"
"I'm just not used to seeing two people lying naked on a bed. It makes me unhappy."
It's understandable, given that she had never filmed such scenes herself, and she finds it hard to accept. "I can't tolerate it. Having lived abroad, I’m not that conservative, but I can't get used to this," she explains. Kent Tong appreciates her dual personality—open-minded yet retaining the traditional virtues and gentleness of a Chinese woman. She is generous but holds her own opinions.
Kent Tong has made significant concessions to accommodate her. Recently, he stopped filming bedroom scenes and took on a ghost film instead. He worked through the night without complaining. Kent Tong says, "I avoid bedroom scenes now because she can't stand them."
Barbara understands Kent Tong’s efforts. The two get along well. "When he acts, I don’t interfere. I don’t know if it's worth it to be sympathetic toward myself, but we make it work."
