Last phone call with Weng Meiling!
Interview with Yawng
On Tuesday 14 May, I went back to work as usual. I went back to work and continued with my unfinished work. Suddenly, my colleague said to me with a half-laugh and half-anxiety, "Weng Meiling has died! Since my colleagues love to laugh and have nothing better to do, my first reaction was, "What are you playing at ......?". They replied "It's not a game, it's something that came out from the news. It was reported on the radio."
"......" I just thought to myself. "No, I don't believe it. How could a nice person die for no reason?"
And then a colleague said, "I heard that she died by gas inhalation."
"I just spoke to Yung Mei Ling on the phone yesterday."
My colleague walked away, so I grabbed a radio and waited to hear the news. "The TV star was found dead in the living room of her Broadcast Drive home this morning. The room smelled of gas and she was taken to hospital where she was confirmed dead. ......"
After hearing the first news report in person, I still found it hard to accept the truth. I sat by the radio for more than two hours and listened to the report four times before I could believe it was the hard truth. In the meantime, I had hoped that the news report would be corrected to say that the news of the death of Ms. Yung Mei Ling was wrong. But I could not wait. It's just that I spoke to her on the phone yesterday.
"Hello, is that Yung Mei Ling?"
"Yes, I am."
I can't believe it went so well. I'd always called her house and couldn't find her, but this was the first and last time.
"I'd like to invite you out for tea, are you free today?"
"No, I have to work today."
"How about tomorrow?"
"I can't either, I've got another job."
"Can I talk to you now?"
"I'm reading a script at ...... what do you want to ask me?"
"We were at the Miss Hong Kong film in Repulse Bay on Sunday and we happened to meet Miu Kiu Wai, Chi Mei Chun, kent Tong Chun Yip and Ng Kwan Yu when they went swimming together.
"No, I haven't read the newspaper. What is it?"
"The four of them went swimming, why weren't you there?"
"Well, it's as simple as that, no particular reason, because I had to work that day, and even if I didn't work, I wouldn't have gone because I don't like swimming at all, but if there was a another activity, I would have gone.
"But Chi and Miu are already a couple, so naturally, people will drag Kent Tong and Ng Kwan-yu together.
"So what? People are dragging me and Miao together. It's not like we have anything, so let them talk."
Yung Mei Ling said just now that she was about to start working and was reading the script.
"So I said, "I won't stop you, why don't I come back to you later?"
"Sure, you can call me at 12 o'clock, or you can call the dressing room in Clearwater Bay and find me there."
Okay! I'll talk to you later, bye bye."
After saying goodbye, I never had the chance to talk to Yung Mei Ling again!
I had to wait until after 12 o'clock to call Yung Mei Ling's house, but after more than 10 calls until 1.30 pm, no one answered the phone.
So I changed it to tomorrow. Now I don't have a chance to talk. I really can't talk anymore!

死前一日與阿翁通最後一次電話！
【訪談亞翁內文】
五月十五日星期二，如常地回到公司。回到不久，繼續自已未完的工作。
忽然，公司的同事半笑半帶緊張的對我說：「翁美玲死了呀！」
由於同事們最愛講笑，沒事做就要講笑的，
所以第一個反應是：「痴線啦，玩什麼......。」
「不是玩呀，是港聞方面傳出來的，剛才收音機新聞報導也有報導過呢。」
「......」心裡只是這樣想著：
「不會的，絕對不信，好好地一個人，怎麼會無端端死去呢？」
同事又說：「聽說是被煤氣焗死的。」
「怎麼，不會的啊，我昨天才跟阿翁通過電話呀！」
同事走遠了，於是拿個收音機，等著聽新聞報導。
「電視紅星翁美玲今晨被發現倒臥于廣播道住所客廳之中，
室內充滿煤氣味，送院後証實死亡......」
親耳聽過第一次新聞這樣報告之後，總覺得仍然不能接受這個事實，於是呆坐在收音機旁兩個多小時，聽了四次報告之多，才肯相信這是鐵一般的事實。
其間，我曾希望新聞報導中有更正消息，說翁美玲死亡的消息是錯誤的，
但我始終等不到。人真太化了，昨天才跟阿翁通過電話──
「喂，阿翁是嗎？」
「我是。」
真想不到這麼順利的，從前就是打電話到阿翁家找她，總也找不到，這是第一次，同時也是最後一次
「阿翁想請你出來喝茶傾談一下，今日有空嗎？」
「不行，今天要開工。」
「明天如何？」
「也不行，又有工開。」
「現在跟你談一談，好嗎？」
「嘻，我現在看劇本......你有什麼問我呢？」
「沒什麼，星期日我們在淺水灣影香港小姐時，剛巧碰見苗僑偉、戚美珍、湯鎮業和吳君如結伴去游泳，我們想就此事問一問你，你知道此事嗎？」
「不知道，我沒有看過報紙，是什麼事？」阿翁反問我。
「他們四人去游泳，為什麼沒有你的份兒？」
「啊，就是這麼簡單，沒什麼特別原因，因為那天我要開工嘛，而且，就算我沒工開，也不會去的，因為我根本不喜歡游水，若果換了第二種活動，我就會去。」
「不過阿戚和阿苗已是一對，很自然地，人家便會將阿湯和吳君如拉在一起。」
「那又怎樣，人家也將我和阿苗拉在一起說，
我們又不是有什麼，由得他們怎麼說吧。」
剛才阿翁說過就快要開工，現在看劇本，問到這樣，也不好意思阻她太多時間，於是說：
「不阻你了，不如我遲些再找你好不好？」
「好呀，你可以十二時多打來我家，又或者可
以打去清水灣的化妝間也可以找到我的，
好吧！遲些再談，Bye Bye。」
就在一聲再見後，永遠沒有機會再和阿翁說話了！
晚上食飯時間，打電話到清水灣，沒有人接聽電話，惟有等到十二時多，打到阿翁家，不過，打了十多次直到一時半，也沒有人聽，心想大概是拍戲未返，而且夜深了，也不便再打給人家擾人清夢，於是改了明天再打。
唉！現在想傾也沒有機會了，傾？真的「無得傾」了！
