On 15 May 1985, a Hong Kong newspaper reported the death of a young Hong Kong actress named Weng Mei Ling with the headline "Weng Mei Ling dies of gas poisoning in pink pyjamas in the lobby". The Hong Kong Police Force received a report of a gas leak at 8.50am on 14 May at a residence at 39 Broadcast Drive in Hong Kong, reporting that a 26-year-old woman had fallen unconscious inside the house and was taken to hospital by a friend called Zou Shilong. According to the police, Weng Mei Ling died of gas poisoning when the time was between 3am and 4am. From 26 October to 6 November, an exhibition of the posthumous works of Weng Mei-ling was held in London's Chinatown. The exhibition included over 140 paintings, including landscapes, figures, sketches and textile designs, mostly signed by her, as well as paintings, textiles, ceramics and photographs made by her own hands.
