Although many plots and contents of this novel are worthy of further scrutiny from today's perspective, it was a sensation in those days, and it was still expensive in Luoyang after several reprints. In 1990, the TV series "The Death of Yung Mei Ling", which was adapted from "A Sea of Love", was officially launched. This 3-hour TV series was played by Shanghai actress Zhou Xiaoli as Yung Mei Ling. 《翁美玲之死》当年曾经引起很大的轰动，而当时在国内销量最好的期刊之一《海外星云》曾经超过10次推出过纪念翁美玲的文章和特别专题，1989年由黄河文艺出版社推出了国内唯一的一本撰写翁美玲一生的小说《情海无舟》，虽然该小说从今天看来很多情节和内容都值得再推敲，但在当年却轰动一时，再版数次仍然洛阳纸贵。
1990年根据《情海无舟》改编的上下集电视剧《翁美玲之死》正式推出，这部长达3个小时的电视剧由上海女明星周笑莉扮演翁美玲，主要讲述翁美玲进入影视圈之后和汤镇业之间的情感纠葛以及事业，片中插入了大量《射雕》的镜头，虽然高大的周笑莉扮演其翁美玲来比较勉强，但该剧基本上在小成本的制作上精心还原翁美玲当时的生活环境和所思所想，特别是片尾和片头曲采用了当年(1989)香港女歌手陈慧娴的《最后的缠绵》和《千千阙歌》，歌声凄仓，令人回想翁美玲的曲折人生，也的确令不少人潸然泪下。
