Lau Siu Ming , born October 13, 1931, is a former senior artist of Hong Kong Television (TVB), is one of the pioneers of Hong Kong dance, and is respectfully called " Ming Sir" by insiders ".

Lau Siu Ming  is originally from Heshan , Guangdong . He grew up in Hong Kong. When he was young, he decided to cross the ocean alone. He was awarded a scholarship to study in France. Dance training at the City Classical Ballet Research Center. After experiencing hardships, he finally became a great success and became the first Chinese to choreograph for a French dancer. He was the first Hong Kong dancer to make a name for himself internationally. He served as a dancer and choreographer at the Belgian National Ballet . After returning to Hong Kong, he opened a dance school to train young actors.

In the 1970s, he served as the dance director of the  TV program " Happy Tonight ". In 1975, he guest-starred in the TVB unit drama " Stars ".

In 1979, Lau Siu Ming , who was already a dance teacher at the time, was appreciated by Director Tsui Hark and invited to participate in the filming of his first film " Butterfly ", officially entering the film industry.

Later, in 1981, he started to perform in many TV series on television . He was more active in the decade from the 1980s to the 1990s . Since Lau Siu-ming was already in his fifties at that time, he usually played some mature and prudent roles, especially the father of the main character. During this period, he still participated in film , the most prominent one being the role of the Millennium Tree Grandma in Leslie Cheung's film " A Chinese Ghost Story ".

In 2001, Lau Siu Ming accepted the invitation to perform in the Hong Kong Ballet 's "White Snake" and the Hong Kong Dance Company 's "Butterfly Lovers" respectively. With his years of performing arts experience, he headlined two stage plays and received rave reviews, and was awarded the 2002 Hong Kong Dance Annual Awards . Later, on June 27, 2007, the 77-year-old Lau Siu-ming was awarded the title of Honorary Fellow by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in recognition of his achievements.

In 2010, he won the "Outstanding Artistic Contribution Award" of the "2009 Hong Kong Art Development Award" together with Chung King Fai and Lu Weiluan (Xiao Si)  .

In 2011, he played the role of wealthy businessman Weng Sheng Fen in " Reunion " and the life-long veteran prisoner Xayabo in "Laughing Gor: The Hidden Criminal ", which also received great acclaim.

In 2013, he won the "Thousands of Glory Performer Award" from TVB at the " Thousands of Stars Awards Ceremony 2013 " to recognize and commend his contribution and efforts in the entertainment industry.

In 2017, he starred in the TVB TV series " The Club of Casino ". This drama was Lau Siu Ming 's five-year absence from the screen. Later in an interview, he revealed that the reason why he had not filmed a drama for a long time was because his wife passed away in 2012. She used to be the most loyal movie fan. After watching every drama and every movie, she would rate it from the perspective of the audience. Sometimes her words of advice made him deeply unhappy, but when she left forever he felt that the most important part of his life had left with her. Lau Siu Ming  expired his contract with TVB in January 2019.

In 2020, the 88-year-old Lau Siu Ming starred in the ViuTV drama " Bridge of Sighs ". This drama was Lau Siu Ming 's return after three-year absence from the screen.

生平
刘兆铭原籍广东鹤山,有1兄1弟,于香港成长,年青时毅然只身漂洋过海,宁愿于邮轮当仓底工人,也要到法国苦练舞蹈,后获发奖学金到法国康城古典芭蕾舞研究中心习舞。尝尽艰苦辛酸,终成大器,成为首位为法国舞蹈家编舞的华人。他是第一位在国际间崭露头角的香港舞蹈家,曾于比利时国家芭蕾舞团中担任舞者及编导,回香港后开设舞蹈学校培养年青演员[5]。 

1970年代在无线电视节目《欢乐今宵》担任舞蹈主任,1975年客串出演无线电视单元剧《群星谱》。 

1979年,当时已是舞蹈老师的刘兆铭,获得徐克导演的赏识,邀请参演首出电影《蝶变》之拍摄,正式踏进影坛。 

其后于1981年始于无线电视演出多部电视连续剧。他在1980年代至1990年代这十年间较为活跃,因当时刘兆铭已五十多岁,他一般都是饰演一些老成持重的角色,尤其是主要角色的父亲。这段期间他仍有参与电影演出,较突出者有张国荣电影《倩女幽魂》中饰演千年树姥。 

2001年,刘兆铭接受邀请,分别演出香港芭蕾舞团的《白蛇》及香港舞蹈团的《梁祝》,以其多年来的演艺经验,为两出舞台剧压阵,获得好评如潮,并获颁发2002年香港舞蹈年奖。及后于2007年6月27日,时年77岁的刘兆铭更获香港演艺学院于颁授荣誉院士荣衔,表扬他的成就。 

2010年,与锺景辉、卢玮銮(小思)同获“2009香港艺术发展奖”的“杰出艺术贡献奖”。 

2011年,于《团圆》饰演大富豪翁盛芬及《Laughing Gor之潜罪犯》饰演终身老囚犯沙耶波亦大受好评。 

2013年,在《万千星辉颁奖典礼2013》荣获无线电视颁发“万千光辉演艺人大奖”,肯定及嘉许他在演艺圈中的贡献及付出。 

2017年,出演无线电视剧集《赌城群英会》,此剧为刘兆铭阔别萤幕5年之作,及后接受访问时透露久未拍剧的是因为太太在2012年去世,有一段很长的日子都不开心,以前她是最忠实的影迷,每一套剧、每一部电影,她看完都会站在观众的角度为自己评分,有时候她的忠言令自己深深不忿,可是当她永远离开后,感觉自己生命中最重要的一部分也跟着她一齐离开,刘兆铭已于2019年1月与无线约满。 

2020年,时年88岁的刘兆铭出演ViuTV剧集《叹息桥》,此剧为刘兆铭阔别萤幕3年之作。
