When asked why she joined the entertainment industry, she explained, "People often ask why I would enter the industry as an outsider, given that I already had a stable career and degree from the UK." After completing the contract, she realized the commitment was indeed lengthy and she was the only person the company wanted to sign a five-year agreement. "There was no specific need for such a long contract, but the company insisted, and I was the first they asked to sign a five-year deal."

At the time, there were rumors that the company only agreed to let her play the role of Huang Rong in The Legend of the Condor Heroes if she signed a long contract. When asked if this was true, she clarified, "No, I don't think the company would pressure anyone to sign five years just for one role. The agreement was mutual."

Asked about her thoughts before signing, she admitted, "Yes, I had some reservations at first, but they didn't last long. I just knew that hosting wasn’t for me. I’m not quick-witted enough to be a host, and acting in dramas appealed to me far more, so I accepted the contract."

Reflecting on her success, Barbara shared that her role in The Legend of the Condor Heroes brought her fame. Despite the long contract, she was content, as her career gained momentum. In 1983, she became the first to sign such a long-term contract, driven by the desire to make the most of her career within those five years.

One year later, impressed by her performance, the company offered another five-year contract, with even better terms. She agreed, saying, "The terms were much improved, and the timeline still felt manageable to me, so I signed again."

But in 1984, she noticed a downturn in her career, something she also sensed herself. When asked if it was because of emotional lows, she admitted, "There were personal issues, including a breakup and other factors."

When asked if her emotional nature made it harder to work, she responded, "Not really. They say this industry is filled with emotional people."

Her career slowed in 1984, but Barbara was determined to start fresh in 1985. "To start over?" she asked. "In the public eye, 1983 was my peak, but I see it differently. I view it as my starting point, a year that brought many achievements, but in 1984, I felt stagnant. So, in 1985, I plan to work even harder, aiming for greater success."

When asked if Maggie Cheung’s (张曼玉) rise in 1984 created any competition, she firmly denied it, explaining that her struggles were due to her own emotional challenges, not a competition with Maggie.

Barbara revealed herself as a highly imaginative person. When asked about her interest in making films, she answered eagerly, "Of course, I'd love to." She clarified that her interest in film wasn’t solely for the money, but for the chance to create new memories: "If I could make movies, it would add something unique to my life experience because I've never tried it before. It’s about creating a special memory. That's exactly why I came to Hong Kong from the UK, to experience new things in the entertainment world. I had a career and degree in the UK, so there was no need to worry about my future, but I came to Hong Kong's entertainment industry to create special memories."

When asked if she regretted anything, Barbara confidently replied, "No, never!"
