"The Ballad of Narayama" Premiere
Japanese Consul General and Leading Lady Preside Over Ribbon-Cutting; Public Release Begins Tomorrow on the Twin-South Circuit's Ten Theatres
"The Ballad of Narayama" held its premiere at 9:30 p.m. the night before last at the Nanyang Theatre to a full house. A cocktail reception at 8:30 p.m. was hosted by Mr. Wu Hon Fai, Chairman of the Board of Wellmade Films Limited, and General Manager Borgelt, who welcomed the guests.
The premiere ceremony began at 9:30 p.m., presided over by Japanese Consul General Hiroaki Fujii. The ribbon-cutting was performed by the film's leading lady, Sumiko Sakamoto; Tōei representative Mr. Sugiyama; Liao Yiyuan, Head of Sil-Metropole Organisation; and Wu Hon Fai, Chairman of Wellmade Films Limited. TV star Miss Mei Ling acted as the Master of Ceremonies. Little sister Hu Jiefang presented a bouquet of flowers to the leading lady, who then entertained the guests by singing two songs, after which the screening began.
That evening, nearly a thousand guests were in attendance to enjoy the film, including celebrities from various circles, the Japanese Consul, and heads of major Japanese banks and securities firms. The scene was bustling and brilliant, filled with the sparkle of jewels and the elegance of formal attire (a sight of great splendor).
It is noted that this film won the prestigious Palme d'Or at the 1983 Cannes Film Festival. It is only the third Asian film in 36 years to receive this honor. The first was "Gate of Hell" in 1954, and the second was "Kagemusha" in 1980. However, "The Ballad of Narayama" created the biggest sensation in both Cannes and Japan. After winning the award in Cannes, the premiere concluded with the audience giving the leading lady a warm ovation. The applause followed her continuously all the way to her hotel, not ceasing until she entered, a testament to the film's profound emotional impact.
Following its premiere the night before last, "The Ballad of Narayama" will be publicly released starting tomorrow (Saturday) in ten theatres on the Twin-South circuit.

《楢山节考》首映礼
日本总领事及女主角主持剪彩 明日起在双南线十家影院公映
《楢山节考》于前晚九时半假座南洋戏院举行首映礼，全院满座。八时半举行的酒会由唯好影业有限公司董事长胡汉辉、总经理柏义（Borgelt）招待嘉宾。
九时半，首映仪式开始，由日本总领事藤井弘主礼。并由该片女主角坂本寿美子、东映代表杉山、银都机构董事长廖一原、及唯好影业有限公司董事长胡汉辉联合剪彩。仪式由电视红星美玲小姐担任司仪，胡洁芳小妹妹向女主角献花，而后女主角高歌两曲娱宾，随即开始放映。
当晚出席观赏的嘉宾有各界名流、日本领事及日本各大银行、券商首脑等近千人，场面热闹，星光熠熠，衣香鬓影，极一时之盛。
查该片系一九八三年度在法国戛纳影展荣获最佳金棕榈大奖，是三十六年来第三部获得此殊荣的亚洲影片。第一部为一九五四年之《地狱门》，第二部是一九八零年的《影武者》。然轰动戛纳及日本者，却以《楢山节考》最为哄动。该片在戛纳得奖后，首映礼尾声观众向女主角报以热烈掌声，一路不停地送至其入旅邸，仍掌声不绝，可见其感人之深。
《楢山节考》于前晚首映后，将于明日起（星期六）在双南线十家影院公映。
