On May 6, 1985, Barbara visited a dog shelter at the Hong Kong Dog Race Track
"The Afterglow of a Fallen Star"
On the Monday before Barbara Yung’s sudden passing, we photographed her for a final series of images. That day, she was radiant, dressed in peach-red attire. Arranging this outdoor shoot had been fraught with setbacks—we scheduled it four times. The first was canceled due to rain; the second was interrupted by a sudden filming notice; the third was postponed when friends from Southeast Asia visited. At the time, she joked: “If I stand you up again next Monday, just kill me!”
Of course, she kept her promise that final time, allowing us to capture her last, luminous moments.
A Last Glimpse of the Fallen Star
Star, you made the night darker.
A fading glimmer—
you vanished abruptly into eternity,
before I could even lift my head to ask.
The night is deep,
yet not lonely.
Though you alone claim the sky,
I marvel at your brilliance,
though I seldom look up.
If you already shine brighter than ten thousand chariots—
why must you leave so soon?
