While many entertainers are troubled by the pressure to sign five-year contracts, Kent Tong quietly went to Taiwan to film with the full approval of TVB. Negotiations about his contract renewal are to be discussed upon his return to Hong Kong. His special privileges have sparked both admiration and envy among his peers. While some quietly admire his situation, jealousy has led to various rumors, though only the involved parties know the truth.
Jealousy often gives rise to wild speculation. Among the "Five Tigers," Kent, as the eldest brother, may not seem as accomplished as his four younger counterparts. “Impossible! Do I really have that kind of power?” Barbara replied indignantly. “If I did, I’d first use it to help myself and ask the company to let me change my roles to do more modern dramas!”
Since they began dating, there have been many rumors about issues between them, both in their personal and professional lives.
“It seems that people believe your achievements slightly surpass his. Do you agree?”
“I admit it,” Barbara responded, “but I think people are overly suspicious. He is my boyfriend, and I absolutely believe in his professional capabilities. Besides, he entered the television industry earlier than I did and understands things better than I do. Although there is currently a small gap in our achievements, who’s to say he won’t surpass me in the future?”
“Do you think TVB gives him special treatment?”
“No. In any situation, there are gains and losses. It’s true that among the Five Tigers, he’s filmed the most movies. But has anyone considered the roles assigned to him? They are often villain roles that leading men don’t want to play. Moreover, he hasn’t had the chance to perform on stage, unlike the other Tigers, who have all had such opportunities. His chances are fair, and I don’t understand why people still envy him,” she explained in defense of Kent and herself.
“If you had the ability to help his career, would you do it?”
“I believe he wouldn’t accept it. He has a strong sense of pride and doesn’t like relying on his girlfriend or wife for help. That’s one of the traits I’ve always admired about him. Of course, if he needed help and I had the ability to provide it, I would assist him, but I wouldn’t let him know. I want to respect his pride,” she said thoughtfully.

了台湾拍戏,兼且是光 明正大获得无线批准的 ,至于他的续约问题亦 定在台返港后才再洽商 。对阿汤获得的特别 恩许确令人既羡慕又妒 忌。人们羡慕之余,很 少会说什么话,不过妒 于是真是假便只有当事 者才知了。
忌心一作祟,五花八门 的传言便会满天飞。至在五虎中,阿汤虽 是大师兄,但比之其他 四位师弟,他的成就无 疑是稍为逊色了,不过 若论拍片赚外快的机会 ,却以他最多。遂有人 称,阿汤获得无线特别 优待,只因为他的女朋 友是翁美玲,目前无线 的当家花旦,看在她的 情面,阿汤向公司请假 拍片当然是方便得多。
“不可能,我有这 种能力吗?他们太看得 起我了,如果我有这种 能力,也首先帮帮自己 要求公司让我改戏路 ,多拍点时装剧!”她 没好气的说。
自从拍拖以来,有 关她与阿汤在感情上。 工作上所产生的问题。 实在传过不少。

“你认为无线对他 是否特别优待?”
“不是,做任何事 ·有得自然也有失・不 错他是五虎中,拍电影 是最多,但别人又可有 想到,公司平均派给他 演的是什么角色?都是 些小生不愿演的奸角。 而且这些年来他还未有 过登台的机会,相反其 他四虎都登过台拍过戏 ·其机会是平等的,我 不明白外间仍有人妒忌 他。”她要为阿汤也为 自己而辩护。
“如果在事业上有 能力扶他一把,你会这 样做吗?”
“我相信他不会接 受,他自尊心很强,不 是喜欢依靠女朋友或太 太帮助的人,我也是一 直欣赏他这份气概。当 然在他有需要而我又有 能力的时候,我会帮他 的,不过我还是不愿意 让他知道
