Barbara Yung Mei-Ling, who rose to fame with the TV series The Legend of the Condor Heroes, became the first artist to sign a long-term contract with the television company in 1983. While many of the company's artists were troubled by the five-year contract at the time, Barbara seemed unaffected. When asked why she wasn't worried, she replied:
"Why should I be worried? Of course, there's no need for concern. After all, I was the first person the company wanted to sign a five-year contract with."
There were even rumors back then that the company required her to sign the five-year deal before allowing her to play the role of Huang Rong. Is that true?
"It's not true. I don't think the company would stoop to something as underhanded as forcing someone to sign a five-year contract to play Huang Rong."
Did you think it through before signing back then?
"A little bit! But I didn't take long to decide and signed it right away."
Barbara explained that at the time, she was only hosting the show Women Today. She didn’t consider herself suited for hosting and had a greater interest in acting. That led to her signing the contract.
A year later, the company, recognizing her excellent performance, asked her to sign another five-year contract.
"The terms were better than the first one, and the duration seemed fine to me, so I signed it again."
Although Barbara signed a new five-year deal in 1984, she didn’t achieve any remarkable accomplishments that year.
She was aware of this herself, and she said:
"I feel that 1983 was just the start for me. That year undoubtedly gave me a lot, but in 1984, I stagnated. That’s why, in 1985, I’m starting over from scratch. I’ll be more proactive in my work and strive to do even better."

目前,许多该公司的艺人都为了这个五年 长约而烦恼,可翁美玲却象局外人般,问她为何 一点都不担心?
“为什么要担心呢?当然不用我担心,因为 公司要艺员转签五年长约,我应该是第一人。”
当时还传言公司一定要翁美玲签了五年长约 才给她演“黄蓉”一角。
这是真的吗?
“不是,我想公司也不会要胁人签五年约才
给我演黄蓉那样卑鄙的呀。” 当年你有经过考虑吗? 经过考虑吗?

“一点点啦!不过考虑不久便即刻签约了”
翁美玲持的理由是当时她只是负责《妇女新 姿》的主持工作,而她又自认非主持人材,更何 况她对戏剧的兴趣浓过主持工作,于是便签约了。 。
一年之后,公司鉴于她的表现好,要她签过另 一张五年长约。

“条件比上一张更好,而且时间对我来说还” 是差不多,于是又签了。
虽然在八四年阿翁签了新五年约,但在这一 年中,阿翁却没有特别的表现。
她自己也察觉到了,所以她说:
我觉得八三年只不过是我起步的一年,无疑 这一年令我得到很多,但在八四年我却停滞不前 ,所以在八五年我要从头来过,更加积极去做事 ,要做得更好。”
