Mom Urges Her to Get Married Quickly
Yung Mei Ling Laughs and Says No One Wants Her
Focused on Filming in 1984
Yung Mei Ling appeared at the airport yesterday to welcome Sakamoto Sumiko to Hong Kong. She excitedly recounted her stage performance in Thailand last month, beaming with joy. Because her TV dramas are airing in Thailand, everyone there recognizes her. Walking on the streets, even children call her "Weng Weng."
Stepping into 1984, Yung Mei Ling’s biggest wish is to star in films. Having already tried television and stage performances, filmmaking holds the greatest appeal for her. However, since her portrayal of Huang Rong, Hong Kong Television (HKTV) has turned down six movie offers for her, citing issues with scripts, scheduling, and pay conditions.
Yung Mei Ling signed a five-year contract with HKTV just last year, meaning any films she takes on must be approved by the company. If HKTV doesn’t agree, there’s nothing she can do. Nonetheless, she expressed her absolute trust in HKTV. When asked about the so-called "five-year sellout contract" being too long, Yung Mei Ling said:
"If I’m going to work anyway, why not sign for longer? It means more opportunities. Otherwise, I’ll just end up hosting ‘Women Today’ again."
Her mother recently arrived in Hong Kong and will spend the Lunar New Year here. When reporters asked Yung’s mother if meeting Tong Chun Yip felt like a future mother-in-law seeing her son-in-law, Yung Mei Ling laughed and said:
"Just friends!"
She emphasized that her focus is currently on her career, making marriage impossible for now. However, her mom has been urging her to marry soon.
"In the past, when I had boyfriends, she was very strict. Now, she keeps telling me to get married. I told her, no one wants me!"

踏入八四年,翁美 玲最大心愿是拍电影。 因为电视与登台都试过 了,拍电影对她吸引力 最大。不过,由她演黄 蓉至今,港视已为她推 了六部电影,理由是剧 本,时间,片酬等条件 未能配合。
翁美玲与港视在去 年才签下五年合约,拍 片必须经港视。公司不 同意,她也没有办法。 不过她表示对港视绝对 信任。有谓五年卖身契 太长。
翁美玲说:"反正 是做,不如签长些,多 些机会。不然,又是主 持《妇女新姿》。”
她母亲最近到港, 会在此间过年,记者问 翁妈妈见了汤镇业可有 岳母见女婿的心情?
翁美玲笑道:“朋 友而已!”表示暂时事 业为重,不可能结婚。 不过,妈咪见了她便催 她早日嫁人。
以前,我交男朋 友,她很严。现在整天 叫我嫁。我告诉她没人 要!”
