I called Barbara Yung and a man answered the phone. Later, I casually asked her, "Who was that man?"
"It was Brother Ah Tong," she said immediately. "We were chatting, a bunch of friends were at my place chatting."
I've always found Barbara to be easy-going and broad-minded about most things. But strangely, recently if someone asks her, "Have you been playing mahjong?" she becomes very upset.
She said, "Everyone says I love playing mahjong. With all their exaggerations, I'm made to seem like I'm obsessed. Actually, I rarely play at all."
After reading articles that wrote about her loving mahjong, she got so angry that—she quit gambling. When she has nothing to do, she just stays home watching videos.
"I haven't played in a long time. But the other day it was Fanny Wang's birthday, my friends dragged me into playing four rounds, and I was spotted by a reporter. Just my luck."
"That's strange, you didn't care before. Playing mahjong is just playing mahjong; lots of people love playing mahjong."
"But that's not who I am," she said. "It damages my image. People who don't know me will think I'm a gambling addict."
Barbara is currently filming a modern drama and finds it very relaxing. She said, "It's the most relaxed I've been since I started acting. First, because it's a contemporary show, and second, because my scenes are quite spread out, and Tony Leung's (偉仔) scenes are more numerous."
Speaking of Tony Leung, I casually asked, "How has Tony Leung been lately?"
She immediately became very sensitive and retorted, "How is Tony Leung? How should I know? I'm not him."
Actually, my question had no ulterior motive; it was just because I had tried to reach him many times recently without success, so I asked in passing.
Barbara's sensitivity probably stems from a recent news report. That report claimed that late one night, a man and a woman were seen strolling arm-in-arm on a street in Tsim Sha Tsui. Upon closer look, the man was Tony Leung, and the woman was Barbara Yung. When a reporter later asked Barbara for verification, she admitted that she had indeed gone out for fun with Tony and a group of colleagues after work that night to a billiard hall, and she didn't deny that Tony saw her home. However, she firmly denied that the two were walking arm-in-arm.
Therefore, when I mentioned Tony Leung, she immediately became defensive.
After this modern drama, the company had originally arranged a period drama for her. However, because these two series were scheduled to air around the same time (albeit on different days), they feared the audience might grow tired of seeing her. Consequently, her name was eventually removed from the cast list of the period drama.
"Actually, I really wanted to act in that series," she said.
Originally scheduled to film the period drama in April, the cancellation now means she has some time to rest.
Kent Tong's (阿湯) scenes in Taipei aren't finished yet. He's currently in Hong Kong filming "The New Adventures of Chor Lau Heung". Once he's done here, he'll return to Taipei.
"Where will he spend the New Year?"
"I don't know, it's still uncertain."
The relationship between Barbara and Kent Tong had once hit a rough patch, and in her words, Barbara had also hinted at some incompatibility between them.
Nevertheless, the relationship has endured, and the two are still seen together everywhere.
Perhaps, relationships are inherently contradictory like that.
I did not ask Barbara about the rumors concerning her and Tony Leung. In fact, regarding these rumors, she has been uncharacteristically resistant and has no desire to clarify them.
Her mother returned to England on February 2nd. Her mother's visit to Hong Kong lasted a month. Fortunately, Barbara wasn't too busy and could accompany her around.
"Do you have time off for the New Year?"
"Probably just one day on New Year's Eve. On the first day of the New Year, I still have to film for 'Women's New Attitude' (婦女新姿). I'll be off on the second day, and by the third day, I'll have to officially start work again."
Barbara's five-year long-term contract with TVB has already run for one year. She said, "I was the first one to sign a five-year contract."
"Do you regret it after signing?"
"I never regret anything I do. What's done is done."

一個古裝劇給她,但因為這兩個劇集將在同一時期不同時間推出。惟恐観樂看厭,所以古裝劇最後的演員名單删掉了她的名字。
「其實,我是很想演這個劇集的。」
本來四月份安排拍這個古裝劇, 現在取消掉,變成這段時間可以休息。
之下——戒賭。沒事做時,就坐在家裏看錄影帶。
「我已經很久不玩了,但是,那一天薰妮生日,我被朋友拉去打了四圈,又被記者碰到,倒霉。」
「奇怪,你以前不會在乎的呀, 打麻將就打麻將,甜美頭,大把人喜歡打麻將。」
「我明明不是那樣嘛。」她說:
「破壞形象。人家不知道,還以為我很爛賭。」
阿翁現在拍這個劇集,十分輕鬆 。她說:「是我拍戲以來最輕鬆的一

「他在那裏過年?」
「不知道,現在還不知道。」
阿翁和阿湯的感情,一度出現危機,而且在言語之間,阿翁也透露了彼此的不協調。
不過,這段感情始終維持著,兩個人依然出雙入對。
也許,感情本身就是那樣矛盾。
我沒有問阿翁,關於她和偉仔的傳說 。事實上,對於這件傳聞,她一反常態地抗拒,也不想澄清。
媽媽已於二月二日回英國,這次媽媽來香港,住了一個月,剛好她也不太忙,所以陪她到處玩。
「過年有假嗎?」
「大概年三十放一天,年初一選要上婦女新姿。年初二放一天,年初三便要正式開工了。」
次。一來,因為是時裝,二來,數比較分散,而且偉仔的戲比較多。」
說到偉仔,我順口問一句:「偉仔最近怎麼樣?」
她立刻很敏感,反問我:「偉仔怎麼樣?我怎麼知道,我又不是他。」
其實我問這一句話,毫無動機, 只因為最近找了他很多次都找不到, 所以才順便問一問。
阿翁如此敏感,大概跟一篇報導有關。那篇報導說,在某日的深夜, 有人在尖沙咀的街道,看到一男一女相擁漫步,注意一看,那男的是偉仔 ,而那女的是阿翁。後來記者向阿翁求证,她承認那天晚上的確跟偉仔等一班同事收工後去波樓要樂,也不否認偉仔送她回家,但,她否認兩個人相擁。
因此,到了我提起偉仔時,她馬上將自己武裝起來。
阿翁和無綫的五年長約,已經過了一年。她說:「我是第一個簽五年長約的。」
