Barbara Yung and Kent Tong's "World for Two"
The word "fate" is truly impossible to explain with common logic. Just like how the strong relationship between Idy Chan and Chow Yun-fat ultimately ended, or Fat Chai's (Chow Yun-fat's) lightning marriage and divorce with Ada Yu – these are all matters of "fate" that can't be reasoned. Even the current TVB "darlings", Barbara Yung and Kent Tong, falling in love is also just due to that one word: "fate".
Isn't that so? Kent Tong was originally in Hong Kong, getting along very well with Deborah Moore, a Miss Hong Kong runner-up. They were a hot item, seen together everywhere for quite a long time. Who would have thought a "curveball" would appear? Barbara, for no apparent reason, "crashed" back from Britain. After living in the UK for many years, she suddenly decided to join the Miss Hong Kong pageant, as luck would have it, she lost, which gave her the free time to be "spotted" by TVB and cast in the series "The Legend of the Unknowns". All these coincidences combined led to her and Kent Tong becoming friends.
Don't Casually Use the Word "Snatch"
Whenever asked how she "snatched" Kent Tong away from someone else, she first tells people not to casually use the word "snatch", because at that time Kent and Deborah were no longer a couple.
"We met while filming 'The Legend of the Unknowns'. At the time, I didn't understand anything. It was my first time being a TV series actress, I was a bit scared and unused to it. Kent was beside me, teaching me like an older brother. We had many chances to interact, talked a lot, and gradually became good friends," Barbara "confessed" like this.
Strangely, "The Legend of the Unknowns" also had two beautiful actresses, Sharon Yeung and Huang Xingsiu. Why was Kent Tong especially "attentive" to this newbie little sister? Why didn't he go teach Sharon? According to records, Sharon doesn't even have a close boyfriend!
Becoming the "Hong Kong Momoe & Tomokazu"?
The wonder lies right here. The two words "fate" are the reason. After filming "The Legend of the Unknowns" wrapped, Kent Tong became Barbara Yung's "private driver" . His newly purchased two-seater sports car was always occupied by just him and Barbara. To look at them, the woman is pretty and graceful, the man is gentle and handsome – a perfect match. It makes people feel like they are seeing Momoe Yamaguchi and Tomokazu Miura when they were in love, that feeling of a golden boy paired with a jade girl. Most coincidentally, their looks and temperament happen to be six or seven parts similar to the Yamaguchi-Miura couple. It suddenly makes one think, if TVB were to produce some Momoe Yamaguchi-style modern romantic dramas for them to star in, they would definitely be hugely popular, becoming a "Hong Kong Momoe & Tomokazu" pairing.
TVB must certainly have also realized that this Barbara and Kent pairing could boost ratings, so they cast them as lovers in "The Foundation". Although in that drama, three men love Barbara Yung, it's said she has more scenes with Kent Tong, showing it was deliberately arranged by TVB. A real-life couple playing a couple on screen; when asked how they felt about it, both said unanimously: "Very unnatural."
Watching His Girlfriend Be Affectionate with Male Actors
"But if I had to watch her act as a lover with other male actors, filming intimate scenes, I would feel even more unnatural," Kent said with a laugh. "Because every man has a chauvinistic streak; they wouldn't enjoy watching their girlfriend be intimate with someone else."
Actually, Kent isn't just chauvinistic; it turns out he also has conservative tendencies. Although the women he has loved, from Deborah to the current Barbara, are both Anglicized girls returned from Britain, Kent himself is somewhat traditional. In front of others, he never dares to be too affectionate with Barbara Yung, always "properly" holding her hand, never "wrapping arms around necks". So, if you thought Kent and Barbara would find it "easy and familiar" to play intimate scenes as lovers, you'd be wrong, because they haven't "practiced" enough!
Two Similarities Between Them & Thoughts on "The Big Event"
The two often show up at TVB wearing matching coloured shirts. They both like wearing white shorts – a very interesting common point. Often, they each wear a pair of white shorts, carrying a travel bag for clothes and items, giving a feeling of being "lookalike dolls".
However, every time they are asked about the "marriage" question, Barbara's reply is: "My career has just started, what marriage? Let's talk about it two years later at the earliest!" As for Kent Tong, he firmly starts with: "Where would I get the money to get married?! Right now I have a mortgage to pay, and payments for two cars – one I use for going to the station (TVB), a larger one for the convenience of my parents and friends going out... it's a huge expense! If I add a wife to that, I'd be dead for sure that I can't manage it!"
Alright, alright, no marriage then. Actually, for us fans of Barbara Yung, it might be better if Barbara never gets married!
女的美●男的俊————好一双“金童玉女”
翁美玲汤镇业的“二人世界”
“缘分”这两个字，真是无法用常理去解释的。就好像陈玉莲和周润发感情那么好最终也要分开，发仔（周润发）和余安安闪电结合又闪电分手，都是无法用理由解释的“缘”。就算是现在无线（TVB）的“宠儿”翁美玲和汤镇业共堕爱河，也只是凭一个“缘”字而已。
不是吗？阿Kent（汤镇业）本来在香港好好的，与同样是港姐季军出身的热门人物狄宝娜摩亚（Debbie）打得火热，两人出双入对已经有一段很长的时间。谁知横里杀出个“程咬金”——芭芭拉（翁美玲英文名），没头没脑地从英国“撞”回来。而在英国居住多年的她突然会想到参加港姐竞选，偏偏又落了选，让她有空闲时间去被无线“看中”，参加《十三妹》一剧的演出。种种子巧合加在一起，才令她和汤镇业成为朋友。
不要胡乱用“抢走”两字
每次问芭芭拉是如何“抢走”别人的汤镇业时，她首先就叫人不要胡乱用“抢走”这些字眼，因为当时阿Kent和狄宝娜摩亚已经不再是情侶了。
“我们是在拍《十三妹》时认识的，当时我什么也不懂，第一次当电视剧演员，觉得有点害怕，又不习惯。阿Kent在旁边像个哥哥似的教我，大家接触的机会多，谈多了，逐渐成为好友。”芭芭拉这样“表白”。
奇怪的是，《十三妹》里还有杨盼盼和黄杏秀两位美女演员，为什么汤镇业对这个初入行的小妹会格外“关照”？为什么不去教杨盼盼？根据资料显示，盼盼一直未有亲密男友哩！
成为“香港百惠友和”？
奇就奇在这里了，“缘分”这两个字，就是它的理由。在《十三妹》拍完后，汤镇业就成了翁美玲的“柴可夫司机”（私人司机），他供车会买的两座位小跑车，总是坐着他和芭芭拉两个。看上去，女的娇美大方，男的温柔俊美，也是再配合不过，令人像看到山口百惠和三浦友和相爱时一样地有金童配玉女之感。最巧合的是他们俩的外型和气质刚好与山口百惠和三浦友和夫妇有六、七分相似。突然想到，如果无线开拍一些山口百惠式的时装浪漫爱情剧给他们演，一定会大受欢迎，成为“香港百惠友和”的配搭了。
无线其实一定也已想到芭芭拉和阿Kent这对配搭能够刺激收视率，所以在《决战玄武门》中安排他们为情侣。虽然在《决》剧中爱翁美玲的有三个男人之多，但据知她与汤镇业的对手戏比较多，可见是无线刻意安排的。荧幕下的真情侶在荧幕上演情侣，问他们有什么感受，两个不约而同地说“十分不自然”。
看着女朋友与男演员亲热
“不过如果看着她和其他男演员演情侣，亲亲热热地拍戏，我会更加不自然。”阿Kent笑说，“因为每一个男人都有大男人主义，不会喜欢看着自己的女朋友与人亲热的。”
其实阿Kent不只是大男人主义，原来他还有思想保守的倾向。虽然他爱过的狄宝娜摩亚以至现在的芭芭拉，都是英国回来的“洋化”女孩子，阿Kent自己偏偏有点传统的倾向，在人面前从来不敢与翁美玲显得太亲热，总是“斯斯文文”地拖着她，不会“搂头搂颈”。所以，如果你以为阿Kent和芭芭拉扮演情侣演起亲密镜头时会“驾轻就熟”就错了，因为他们“练习”得不够！
两人共同点与“终身大事”
两人常在无线（TVB）穿 matching 的彩色上衣。两人还有一个很妙的共同点：都喜欢穿白色的短裤。常常他们一人一条白短裤，拎着一个装衣物用品的旅行袋，很有“公仔”（娃娃/情侣）之感。
不过，每次问及“结婚”问题，翁美玲的答复是：“事业刚起步，谈什么结婚呀？最早也要两年后吧！”至于汤镇业呢，就硬是先来一番“哭穷”：“我哪来的钱结婚呀！现在我要供楼，又要供两部车，一部自己用来进电视台（上班），一部大一点的方便父母和朋友出遊……好大开销呀！再加一个老婆的话，就死都‘搞唔掂’（搞不定）了！”
好吧好吧，不结婚就不结婚，其实对我们这些翁美玲迷来说，芭芭拉一直不结婚更好哩！
