The Mid-Length Drama "United we stand"
The mid-length drama "United we stand" concluded its broadcast on June 8. Although this lighthearted romantic comedy didn’t live up to expectations, fans of Barbara Yung Mei-ling were still delighted. She played two roles in the series: the refined and noble heiress Ho Doh-wan and the brash yet romantically devoted "Thief Girl" Lam Pui-ying. Naturally, this gave her a significant amount of screen time, which was quite evident.
Barbara herself returned to Hong Kong in early June but later went to the UK for a visit, staying for about ten days before coming back. She seems to have realized that over the past six months, she had taken on too many projects, including The Fearless Duo, The foundation, and United we stand , one after another, leading to some overexposure. She decided to "lay low" for a while to recharge. However, in July, the ever-smiling young actress would take over Maggie Cheung's spot as the "Star of Vitality" and reconnect with fans in full force.
Celebrating Her Birthday with Fans
On May 6, Barbara celebrated her birthday early with a group of enthusiastic fans. During the celebration, she personally cut the birthday cake and shared it with her young supporters. Although her actual birthday was on May 7, she happily celebrated a day early to accommodate her fans.
Barbara and Kent Tong Chun-yip were both busy with their work commitments—Kent was filming The Rise and Fall of a Stand-in (五虎將), so he couldn’t attend the birthday gathering. On her actual birthday, Barbara was filming "United we stand" until midnight. Her only celebration was partying at a disco afterward.
When asked about her birthday wishes, Barbara, who described herself as easily content, simply hoped for a smooth career and happiness at work. Among the gifts she received were items sent by her mother from the UK and a shirt from her uncle, who cared deeply for her. Of course, Kent would also give her a gift, but she hadn’t received it yet and refrained from guessing what it might be.
Forming a Bond with Lee Heung Kam as Godmother and Goddaughter
On May 12, during a press event for Rusty Bridge King, Barbara surprised everyone by kneeling and offering tea to veteran actress Lee Heung Kam in a godmother ceremony. Many attendees, including journalists, were initially confused, but it turned out that Barbara was making their on-screen relationship (as mother and daughters) "real" by formally acknowledging Li as her godmother.
Barbara explained that this wasn’t a publicity stunt for the drama. During their first collaboration, Lee had shown her great kindness and care, often guiding her like a real mother. Since Barbara had no close family in Hong Kong, she felt compelled to formalize this bond. Lee accepted the tea and immediately gave Barbara a red envelope with HKD 500 as a gesture of blessing. Both were overjoyed and couldn’t stop laughing.
Barbara also revealed that actor Zhang Chong was her godfather and actor Chen Dick was her godbrother.
A Teary Farewell at the Airport
On May 15, Barbara and Michael Miu Kiu-wai went to Singapore and Malaysia for performances. At the airport, Kent Tong came to see her off, but the two had a minor quarrel.
When reporters asked for a photo of the couple, Kent appeared impatient, upsetting Barbara, who then retreated to the restroom for a brief cry. As she passed through the gates, Kent comforted her with whispered reassurances, but she couldn’t hold back her tears. Eventually, they made up, and Kent gave her a farewell kiss before she and Michael departed.
During their performances, Barbara and Michael unveiled a surprise—a duet of Huangmei opera songs. When asked about the idea, Barbara explained that since both of them came from non-Cantonese backgrounds (Barbara was from Shanghai, and Michael from Zhejiang), they decided to showcase something unique to connect with the audience, which was well-received.
Unexpected Wins at the Card Table
In late May, while preparing to return to Hong Kong after a seven-day tour in Singapore and Malaysia, Barbara had an amusing windfall. She joined a group of new friends for a game of cards and emerged as the sole winner, earning $160 USD and 400 Singapore dollars—totaling over HKD 2,500.
Barbara, however, declined invitations to meet with local dignitaries or socialites, choosing to keep her interactions low-key.
Returning to Hong Kong with Fan Gifts
On June 3, Barbara returned to Hong Kong from Kuala Lumpur. Though she had initially planned to spend a few days in Singapore with Michael, she had to return early to host an awards event at Tai Koo Shing Bowling center
Despite her busy schedule, Barbara appeared in good spirits and expressed satisfaction with the trip. She brought back numerous gifts from fans, primarily cuddle toys , which made her luggage exceptionally heavy. After some negotiation, she still ended up paying over HKD 800 in excess baggage fees.
Barbara explained that Kent didn’t meet her at the airport because he was busy filming a new drama (The Return of Wong Fei Hung, 寶芝林), which she completely understood.
During her tour, a local entertainment promoter suggested forming a "duet" with Kent for performances. Barbara declined, citing her belief that personal relationships shouldn’t be commercialized for publicity or financial gain.
Hoping to Collaborate with Maggie Cheung
When asked about Maggie Cheung, Barbara laughed and said that although both were prominent rising stars, their career paths differed, so she didn’t feel threatened. On the contrary, Barbara hoped they would get a chance to collaborate on a drama someday, as it would be a great opportunity to get to know each other better.

和热心影迷一同庆祝生日
(5月6日)翁美玲和她的一群热 心影迷,一同预祝生日。在庆祝会上, 阿翁亲自切生日蛋糕,和那些年轻的小 影迷分享。本来,正日是五月七日,但 为了迁就影迷,阿翁乐于提早一天庆祝 她和汤镇业都忙拍摄工作,阿汤要 「信是有缘」,因此不能一同出席生 日会。到了正日阿翁也要拍「生锈桥王 」,直至晚上十二时才收工,唯一的庆 祝节目,便是一同到的士高狂欢了。问起她的生日愿望,阿翁表示她是 个容易满足之人,只望事业顺利,工作 开心而已。
除了影迷们送的礼物,还收到妈咪 由英国寄给她的,还有就是舅父送的一 件恤衫,由于舅父很疼锡她,这份礼物 最令她开心。当然,阿汤也会送给她一 份礼物,但她仍未收到,不敢乱猜。
与琴姐上契结为谊母女
(5月12日)在「生锈桥王」的记 者招待会上,翁美玲突然斟茶下跪,向 琴姐(李香琴)行上契仪式。由于部分记者和在场人士事前没有心理准备,初时还不明白是什么一回事,后来才知道原来阿翁「戏假情真」,在「生」剧中,她所饰演的两个角色,都是琴姐的女儿,现在戏拍完了,阿翁却很想做琴姐的契女,致有此举。
接受访问时,翁美玲指出,他俩并 非为这套剧集做宣传,事实上也没有这 个必要。实情是,她和琴姐在初次合作期间,琴姐对她十分疼爱,不时向她加以指导,处处表现得很关心,仿如对亲生女一般,而她在港又没有至亲,所以才兴起与琴姐做谊母女的念头。
琴姐接过上契茶,连忙封了一封五 百元的大利市给阿翁。两人都十分开心 ,笑到合不拢嘴。
阿翁又透露,影星张冲是她的契爷 ,而陈狄克是她的契哥呢。
送机小风波阿翁洒情泪
(5月15日)翁美玲与苗侨伟携手 到星马登台。在机场之内,送机的汤镇 业,与阿翁闹了一场小小的风波。
事件的起因是,在记者邀请下,阿 汤和阿翁靠近拍照之时,阿汤显得有点 不耐烦,令她不开心,跑到洗手间去哭 泣了一会。
到了入闸之时,阿汤拥住阿翁喁喁 细语,呵慰之下,她的泪水又忍不住流 下来。最后,这对小情人言归于好,阿 汤吻别过后,她途和苗侨伟踏上「征途 」。这一次献唱,阿翁与阿苗准备了一 项「秘密武器」,那就是合唱黄梅调了
记者问起阿翁,如何度出这个新招 数的。她表示,因为他俩同是外省人( 一个上海、一个浙江),都懂得讲国语 ,因此他俩凭着合唱黄梅调,令到当地 的观众受落,得到更热烈的反应。
打牌赢钱阿翁意外收获
(5月底)在星马登台七天的翁美 玲,打点一切,准备返回香港。
对于在机场酒泪那一件事,阿翁到 达当地之后,已经怒气全消。他和阿汤 不时利用长途电话互诉相思,至于电话 费若干,她根本不担心,因为阿汤自会 支付的。 反而她看到阿苗与阿戚两个通长途 电话之时,悠闲长气之情,令到她很「
看不过眼」,认为他俩有浪费金的嫌 疑呢。
当地影迷反应热烈的程度,阿翁虽 然不是初次体会到,仍然非常感动,在 登台之时热泪盈眶,累到她隐形眼镜也 跌下,成为苗侨伟取笑的话题。
此外,阿翁在新加坡结识到一群新 朋友,他们约她竹战。素来有「盲拳打死老师傅」之称的阿翁,竟又以一人独赢的姿态,赢到一百六十元美金,四百元坡纸,算起来,超过二千五百元港币,算是意外收获呢。
不过,当她被邀与当地的名流、官 绅会面时,阿翁却一一婉拒了。
影迷送礼物全部带回港
(6月3日)翁美玲由吉隆坡返抵 香港,本来她打算跟苗侨伟到新加坡去 玩几天的,却由于她早就应承了为太古 城一个保龄球场,主持一个颁奖仪式, 只好先行返港。
当日,她把行李送回家中,便要匆 匆赴会。但,阿翁显然心情甚佳,她表 示,对此行的收获极感满意。她接到众 多影迷送给她的礼物,其中又以玩具公 仔占了多数,她也一一把它们带回香港 。因此,行李过重情况严重,过关之时 与有关人员「讲数」,仍要补交行李费
八百多港元呢。 对于阿汤没有到来接机,阿翁表示 很谅解他,因为他正在拍新剧呢。
而在彼邦登台时,曾经有娱乐商提 出要求,希望她和阿汤组织「情侣合唱 团」到当地表演。阿翁却不大同意对方的建议,主要的理由在于,她认为工作与私人生活不应拉在一起,谈恋爱是两人之间的事,用以作为招徕的手法,似乎钱腥味过重了。
希望和张曼玉一同演戏
人们会向阿翁提起张曼玉,她笑着 说,两人虽然同是得到公司重用的艺员 ,可是大家走的路线不同,对她不会产 生威胁的。
不但如此,阿翁还表示,很希望将 来公司会安排她俩一齐演出一部电视剧 ,到时大家就可以碰头,和互相认识了
